STATEN ISLAND, NY — To Ski Or Not To Ski? That question is easy to answer in the Catskill Mountains, where you can experience the beauty of winter in dozens of ways and travel only a short distance from New York City.
If your family is like most, the passions differ between the group – some prefer a gentle hike or snowshoe adventure, while others want to descend a mountain at top speed. There is plenty of choice in winter fun for everyone in the family in the Catskills.
If downhill skiing isn’t your thing, you can explore backcountry trails on Nordic skis or snowshoes. Or make lasting memories as your family descends a huge hill.
Of course you can always relax in a beautiful basic lodge while the kids run down the mountain one more time.
The Catskill Mountains are close enough to New York City for a short weekend trip, but you may find that there is so much to do that you want to spend an entire vacation.
Off-mountain activities include snow tubing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Enjoy the icy winter landscape on a walk, or for indoor relaxation, visit one of the dozens of cafes and coffee shops, brimming with charm with your favorite hot drink.
The area is home to New York State’s best ski resorts, but there’s never been a better time to rent a private home that fits your needs.
