How Dallas’ Travelocity (And Its Wandering Leprechaun) Is Keeping Globetrotting Alive — And Your Zooms Interesting

As people across the country continue to socialize and stay at home (or at least we hope so), North Texas-based Travelocity has found a new way to keep the travel bug alive.

Founded by American Airlines subsidiary Saber Holdings in 1996, Travelocity has always encouraged people to “wander around wisely”. Its mission statement is a commitment to “promote the customer by making the travel experience both simple and memorable through expert advice, competitive pricing, the price match guarantee and exceptional customer service.”

Travelocity is now owned by Expedia Group, headquartered in Seattle, but still based in Southlake. Travelocity’s primary offering is an online platform that consumers can use for instant travel services offered by the company, such as booking, competitive pricing, and more.

How to win $250

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Travelocity released new video backgrounds for Zoom and BlueJeans to help travelers virtually ‘wander the world’. Featuring the infamous Roaming Gnome, the backgrounds show some of the most far-fetched destinations around the world. You can watch the leprechaun paddling at sunset, ballooning and hang gliding in the mountains.

But here’s the catch: the wallpapers come with a cash prize.

The “World’s Wisest Wanderer” can be added to your next conference call via a download on the Travelocity blog. But 10 followers of @roaminggnome on Instagram – you must follow the account – will win a $250 hotel voucher if they guess the location of the next wallpaper. Answers must be submitted to the leprechaun’s Instagram feed; the last match was on May 5 and the next is on May 8. Details here.

Tomorrow a video will be posted on the gnome’s Instagram with a hint about #WhereInTheWorld he is. The first 10 commenters to guess correctly will receive the prize.
