Herzog concludes UAE trip, lashes out at Iran, says visit ‘symbolizes hope’

President Isaac Herzog speaks out against Iran as he concludes his historic visit to the United Arab Emirates.

“There are only two alternatives for this region. One is peace, prosperity, cooperation, joint investment and a beautiful horizon for the people, or else what Iran is doing, which is destabilizing the region and using its proxies to sow terror,” he said, according to a readout from his office. “These are the two alternatives, and this visit symbolizes hope, peace and a great future for our nations, the region and the world at large.”

Herzog speaks a day after the UAE shot down a ballistic missile fired by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

To conclude their two-day trip, Herzog and his wife visit the massive Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Telling an urgent story

During a global pandemic, a small country produces research that helps guide health policy around the world. How effective are COVID-19 vaccines? Does a third dose after the first two injections help? How about a fourth?

When The Times of Israel started covering COVID-19, we had no idea that our little beat would become such a central part of the global story. Who could have known that Israel would be first at almost any point in the vaccination story — generating the research so urgently needed today?

Our team handled this story with the rigor and rigor that characterizes Times of Israel reporting on topics. If it is important to you that this type of media organization exists and thrives, I urge you to support our work. Will you join the Times of Israel Community today?
