Wicker, Hyde-Smith and colleagues call for liability on illegal immigrant flights | Mississippi politics and news

Ms. Senators Question DHS Secretary Over Night Flight Reports

On Thursday, U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), along with 13 senators, signed a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas explaining that the ICE used large groups of lone makeshift borders and loading them on planes to be transported to communities across America.

“In light of the public coverage of ‘midnight flights’ of illegal immigrants, we are requesting full accounting of your ministry’s activities so that we can understand the magnitude of this challenge. We are concerned that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) use of these midnight flights is intended to cover up the government’s failure to secure our borders and protect hardworking, law-abiding Americans,” the lawmakers wrote.

“These reports of illegal immigrants being released into the country are also baffling because the Supreme Court has ordered the Biden administration to reinstate the “Stay in Mexico” policy begun under the previous administration, the senators wrote. “Under this policy, illegal immigrants in Mexico must wait while their asylum applications are reviewed rather than be released in the United States.”

“We are disturbed by the reports of the mass release of criminal illegal immigrants in our communities under the guise of darkness. The American people deserve an answer as to why their tax dollars are being used to fly illegal immigrants across the country to be released in our backyards. Public safety and national security are at stake,” the senators concluded.

Senator Hyde-Smith said on Twitter that it is “deeply disturbing that, at a time when Americans struggle with inflation, their tax dollars are being used to move illegal immigrants across the country, resulting in a mass release of criminal illegal immigrants in our country.” communities.”

“Reports of illegal immigrant flights from the border to locations across the country are very concerning,” Senator Wicker said.

Wicker said he joined his colleges in the letter to the Department of Homeland Security, “demanding full accountability for these activities.”
