Virgin Hotel’s Exterior Wraps Up at 1225 Broadway in NoMad, Manhattan

Exterior work is finishing up on the Virgin Hotel, a 38-story tower at 1225 Broadway in NoMad. Designed by Stantec and developed by Lam Group, the 476-foot-tall, 300,000-square-foot structure will contain 460 hotel rooms managed by Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Group. Flintlock Construction Systems, LLC is the general contractor for the property, which is bound by Broadway, West 29th Street, and West 30th Street.

Since our last update in October, construction on the podium has continued to finish up, with some work remaining along the southern elevation.

At the time of our visit, crews were in the process of assembling the final pieces of the envelope around a set of black mechanical grilles. Glass railings now line the final setback on the slim southern elevation, which will likely be home to a rooftop bar and lounge with views over NoMad and and the Lower Manhattan skyline to the south.

Workers on the northern side of the hotel were busily hauling away discarded scraps in trucks where the main entrance will be located. Above this area on the upper floors of the podium’s corner are six small rectangular facade voids that will bear the Virgin logo facing Broadway and West 30th Street. The sidewalk scaffolding and barriers should be taken down in the coming weeks.

The Virgin Hotel is expected to come with an outdoor swimming pool with lounge areas atop the podium, as well as 90,000 square feet of retail space. A 22,000-square-foot golf store called “Swingers: A Crazy Golf Club” will sit below street level.

1225 Broadway appears to be in the final stages of construction and could likely open in the next several months.
