Ultra-low-cost Canadian carrier Swoop is boosting its US network this summer with flights to five new destinations, including New York (JFK), Los Angeles (Hollywood Burbank), San Francisco, Nashville, and Chicago (O’Hare). The latest destinations will see the Calgary-based airline flying to 11 airports in the US this summer.
Swoop ramps up US services expecting easing travel rules this summer
Swoop says its US expansion is on the back of significantly increased domestic passenger numbers and record bookings, on par with pre-pandemic demand. The airline is also betting on adjustments to transborder travel rules happening soon, with the existing travel restrictions set to expire. Swoop says if restrictions are eased, as expected, Canadians will resume flying south in droves.
“As Canada’s leading ultra-low-cost carrier, we are growing our fleet, expanding our network, and adding service to existing destinations to ensure we are ready to meet Canadian’s pent-up demand for travel experiences south of the border,” says Bert van der Stege, Head of Commercial and Finance at Swoop.
Swoop already flies to San Diego, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, St. Pete-Clearwater, Orlando (Sanford), and Phoenix (Mesa) on a seasonal basis. The airline is extending these flights indefinitely. Together with Swoop’s domestic destinations in Canada, the airline’s network will extend to 33 airports this summer.
Nashville International Airport (BNA) is getting Swoop flights from Toronto (YYZ) four times a week, beginning May 26. Twice weekly flights from Edmonton (YEG) will commence on June 19.
“It’s always a great day when we add new nonstop international flights to Nashville, and it’s even better when we can welcome a new airline to the BNA family, said Doug Kreulen, President and CEO, Nashville International Airport.
