Fleeing driver crashes into Z-Trip killing passenger

A 38-year-old woman riding in a Z-Trip died Wednesday evening when a car fleeing Kansas City police crashed into the vehicle.The two vehicles collided about 5 pm at East Truman Road and Prospect Avenue.Kansas City police Sgt. Bill Mahoney said police were pursuing a Dodge Caliber that had been reported stolen in a carjacking near 45th Street and Cleveland Avenue.Authorities said when officers tried to stop the driver, he sped off. Police were chasing the Dodge westbound on Truman Road when it collided with the Z Trip.”A passenger in the Z-Trip died shortly after she arrived at an area hospital,” Mahoney said.Mahoney said the woman was ejected from the vehicle.The driver of the Z-Trip was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.Mahoney said two teenagers were in the Dodge. The 17-year-old driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is in police custody.A 15-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Dodge, was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in critical condition.The crash remains under investigation.
