Former child actor Ellen Latzen is best known for playing Ruby Sue in Christmas Vacation, but here’s which other movies and shows she’s appeared in.
Ellen Latzen is known for playing Ruby Sue in Christmas Vacation but which other movies and TV shows has she appeared in? Classic holiday movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation perfectly captures the mayhem of a big family Christmas. The 1989 film follows the misadventures of Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) as he tries to celebrate the festive season with his extended family – one of which is Ellen Latzen’s character Ruby Sue. She’s the daughter of Randy Quaid’s cousin Eddie and while she doesn’t get an awful lot of screentime, Ruby does utter some of Christmas Vacations funniest quotes.
Ellen Latzen largely left the limelight in the late 1990s, but she racked up a few memorable roles before leaving her acting days behind. In fact, her first ever gig was in one of the biggest movies of the ’80s: Adrian Lyne’s six-time Oscar-nominated psychological thriller Fatal Attraction† The film stars Michael Douglas as married man Dan Gallagher whose brief fling with femme fatale Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) has disastrous consequences when she starts stalking him and his family. Latzen plays the part of Dan’s daughter Ellen Gallagher whose poor pet rabbit meets a rather horrific end at the hands of Glenn Close’s character in one of Fatal Attractions most iconic and disturbing scenes.
Latzen gained a few more movie and TV credits during the 1980s before she played Ruby Sue in Christmas Vacation† She had a one-off role in a 1987 Christmas episode of the hit NBC sitcom Family Ties as a kid that Michael J. Fox’s character encounters while working as a mall Santa Claus and then had a part in the 1988 comedy-drama film mr. North which was directed by Danny Huston and starred Anthony Edwards. She also appeared in an episode of CBS crime drama series The Equalizer which was recently rebooted into both a series of Denzel Washington movies and a Queen Latifah TV show.
As per Ellen Latzen’s IMDb page, she took on just two roles during the 1990s. One of those was appearing in an episode of the educational anthology series ABC Afterschool Special that also starred a young Sam Rockwell. The other was a supporting role in an award-winning short called Alkali, Iowa made in 1995 that was later included in a compilation titled Boys Life 2 that explored being gay in America.
According to Ellen Latzen’s social media she’s working as a business support consultant and voiceover artist for ads and audiobooks these days. In a 2015 interview with HuffPostshe revealed that she’s working on producing a podcast about child actors – a subject she’s obviously familiar with – and still gets recognized for her role as Ruby Sue in Christmas Vacation†
